Training Goal

This professionally designed course prepares breath alcohol technicians to conduct breath tests in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol Testing Procedures Rule, 49 CFR Part 40, and industry standards. This training includes procedural rules and manufacturer-specific evidential breath testing device proficiencies.

This course is designed for new Breath Alcohol Technicians as well as for Breath Alcohol Technicians who want a refresher or who need to recertify their training.

Training Objectives

Upon completing Breath Alcohol Technician Training, you will be able to:

  • Explain the evidential breath test (EBT) methodology, device operation, and how calibration checks are performed.
  • Describe breath analysis for alcohol content.
  • Explain the Transportation of Workplace Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Demonstrate the procedures for obtaining a breath sample, and correctly interpret and record EBT results on an alcohol testing form.

Course Length

Eight hours of classroom training are required to complete this course.

Certification

A printable certificate is issued after successfully completing the course and is valid for a period of five years. Access to the course content including materials, resources and tools are available for the five-year duration of the certification.
